Thirty years in the field. One company built on purpose.

The Beginning

In 1993, a young Kenyan named Alex King'oo stepped into the bush for the first time — and never really left.

He did not know then that he would spend the next three decades doing the same thing — reading the land, watching the animals, watching the people watching the animals, and understanding slowly that this was not a career so much as a calling.

For thirty years, Alex worked with two of East Africa's largest safari operators. He guided thousands of guests through the Masai Mara at dawn, tracked elephants across Amboseli's dust-white plains, navigated the red-earth wilderness of Tsavo, and stood at the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater with people who had waited their entire lives to be there.

He earned his KPSGA certification — the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association standard, one of the most rigorous guiding qualifications in East Africa — and built a knowledge of Kenya's wildlife, flora, fauna, history, and cultures that can only come from a lifetime of genuine immersion.

But thirty years also teaches you things about the industry you work in.

Why Inside Kenya Safaris exists.

In 2022, Alex made a decision that most guides never do. Not to retire, not to slow down in any meaningful sense — but to build something smaller, more deliberate, and entirely his own.

The idea was straightforward. He wanted to spend more time with his family. He wanted to keep doing the thing he loves most. And he wanted to do it on his own terms — with guests who chose him specifically, not guests assigned to whoever was available that week.

Inside Kenya Safaris was born from that decision. Not from a business plan or an investor meeting, but from a clear-eyed choice by a man who had spent three decades as someone else's guide and decided the time had come to be his own.

When you book with Inside Kenya Safaris, you are booking Alex — his experience, his relationships with lodges and conservancies, his instinct for where to be and when.

You are not booking a company that will allocate a guide to your trip. You are booking the guide, and the company comes with him.

What we believe

Kenya is not a destination you visit. It is a place that gets inside you — in the way the Mara grass smells after rain, in the silence of Amboseli at first light with Kilimanjaro pink above the tree line.

We believe the guide is the safari.

Not the vehicle, not the lodge, not the itinerary. The guide.

Kenya, as we know it

A country that, in the truest sense, contains multitudes — and a lifetime spent learning them.

The guide behindthe company.

Alex has spent a lifetime exploring Kenya. Now, he looks forward to sharing it with you — personally, thoughtfully and from behind the wheel.

Every safari carries a piece of my own story.
