What people say about Alex — and what it really tells you.

The people who travel with Alex do not tend to write short reviews. They write letters. They write dedications in books. They come back — with their children, and their grandchildren.

Guest Stories

There is a version of a testimonials page that reads like a collection of five-star ratings. This is not that page.

A Dutch couple first met Alex in 2003 and were still writing about him in 2026. A family from the United States returned a second time and brought four friends who had never been to Africa. A retired wildlife professional who spent his entire career in Kenya's national parks handed his grandchildren over to Alex without a second thought.

We think that tells you more than any headline could.

Ko & Ria Augustijn · The Netherlands · First safari 2003

Some guides show you Kenya. A rare few become part of your life.

Ko and Ria first travelled with Alex in 2003. They returned in 2005, then again in 2006 on a private journey — just the three of them. A friendship formed that outlasted the safaris: they visited Alex at home in Nairobi, met his young family, and stayed in touch across two decades. By 2026, no longer travelling, they wrote about Alex anyway — not as a review, but as a tribute.

"The best driver/guide one can wish for — an experience for a lifetime. Maisha Marefu."
Maisha Marefu — "long life," in Swahili. The kind of thing you say to someone you mean to know forever.

Joseph Kioko · Kenya · February 2024

He retired as Director-General of Kenya Wildlife Service. He knows what good looks like.

Joseph Kioko spent his career managing every national park and reserve in Kenya. When his son flew in from Maryland with four boys aged six to twelve, Joseph did not hesitate to recommend Alex. The grandchildren looked forward to each day — and got involved in recognising the birds and animals they saw.

"His experience and knowledge of the whole industry makes him a valuable asset to anyone wanting a memorable safari. We highly recommend Alex and his company."

Jennifer · Massachusetts, USA · August 2025

She had specific expectations for the Great Migration. Alex met every one of them.

Over nine days, Jennifer's family of five saw a cheetah hunting, lions with a fresh kill and hyenas circling, and dozens of newborns across multiple species. At the Mara River, Alex's strategic positioning — even negotiating with other guides to make space — put them exactly where the moment happened. His enthusiasm, she wrote, was the genuine kind: from someone thirty years in the bush who has not grown tired of it.

"His dedication to ensuring we had the best vantage points was just one example of how he consistently went above and beyond. It was truly the trip of a lifetime."

A book, dedicated

Garth & Bonnie Swanson

Some guests bring cameras. Some bring notebooks. The Swansons brought both — and dedicated the book they made to Alex, with his photograph in the front: sitting in the Land Cruiser, sunglasses on, smiling the way you smile when you are exactly where you are supposed to be.

"We thank you for so many things, but mostly the incredible journey you provided for us during our time in Kenya."Garth & Bonnie Swanson

Peter · USA

In 2016 Peter brought his family of four. Eight years later he returned with his wife and four friends who had never been to Africa. They saw the Big Five — lions, cheetahs and a leopard in a single day — and visited workshops Alex knew personally, where artisans sell at prices that make sense.

"They were totally blown away. Alex will make you fall in love with Kenya."Peter · USA
Four children in the bush · January 2024

Peter K · USA

Travelling with four children aged six to twelve is no small undertaking. Alex spent months presenting options and adjusting for the children's ages — then, on the ground, kept the youngest engaged, found the birds that held a six-year-old's attention, and managed remote terrain without drama.

"I was nervous about traveling with 4 children but he made it a non-issue. I can't recommend Alex enough."Peter K · USA
Four safaris since 2008 · November 2023

Claire D · United Kingdom

Claire's family has travelled with Alex since 2008 — four safaris, the Mara, Amboseli, Tsavo, Nakuru, Samburu, the Aberdares, Watamu on the coast. Their children grew up with Kenya as a reference point for what the world can be. When she wrote in 2023, she was already planning the next trip: Mount Kenya, and Shaba.

"There is still so much of Kenya we can't wait to explore. Thank you, Alex, for everything."Claire D · United Kingdom

Peter · USA · Dec 2025

"His knowledge not just of the animals and parks but of his country and its people is astonishing. If he did not know the answer (rare), by the next day he was sharing all he had learned."

Kristi W. · USA · Feb 2024

"Alex has given us a personal insight into every bird, animal and insect we encounter."

Claire D. · United Kingdom · Nov 2023
